| This sauce is the result of a series of happy coincidences. I had given some seeds to Cliff Jenkins, a gardener in Haumoana who has a passion for growing chillies. He had trouble getting them to ripen red so he bought me a big bag of green "Chinese Lanterns" to see if I could do something with them. He mentioned that John Woodham had a big patch of beautiful green capsicums, if I had a use for them. I didn't but it got me thinking that maybe combining the two peppers with some of the limes from my garden that I had pickled last year might be an interesting prospect. I had an idea in my head what it would taste like, and it does. Fresh, tangy, crisp and fragrant. I have been pouring this over simple grilled chicken thighs, which I serve on coconut rice. My son pours it as a spiral over a pizza before he puts it in the oven. It is great over a good piece of pan fried fish. Price: $ 7.50 |
